Visa Application Instructions


 

Step one: Complete the visa application online 


 

Click “I agree” and then “Confirm and Continue”


 

Click “New” under “General Visa Applications” Do not select eVisa Application


 

Travel Details:

  • Duration of Stay: 1-180 days (Visitor Visa)
  • Number of Entries: Single
  • Purpose of Travel: Academic Exchange (including visiting scholar)

  • Given name must include middle name(s) (if any) and exactly match your passport
  • Place of birth is the US state listed on passport (US passport holders)
  • Passport type: Regular
  • Place of passport issuance: United States Department of State (US passport holders)

Step two: Prepare the Visa Application Documents


 

Gathering the following materials:

  • Print out the visa application and sign in black or blue ink
    • Make sure the application form displays a bar code
  • Two color passport-size (45 mm in height and 35 mm in width) photos
    • Must be on a white background
    • Attach to the application form with a paperclip
  • Your passport (must be valid through at least February 2026)
  • A clear color photocopy of the passport bio-page (with name, picture, signature)
  • Two copies of the exchange invitation letter from National Cheng Kung University
  • Two copies of the Tufts student exchange letter (“Gold Seal” letter)
  • Two clear color copies of your Tufts student ID
  • US citizen visa fee: $185; non-US citizen visa fee: $50
    • You must pay the visa fee in cash or money order. Money orders are available for purchase (using cash or debit card) at a USPS post office. Money orders should be made out to Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston


 

Step three: Submit your Visa Application Documents



 

Option 1: 

Bring the application materials listed in the checklist above to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston -- Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Address below) 

You can return to the cultural office to retrieve your passport and visa when it is ready, or you can submit a self-addressed tracked and insured return envelope (USPS Priority Mail with postage) for the cultural office to return your passport and visa to you.

Option 2: 

Mail the application materials listed in the checklist above to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston in a tracked and insured envelope (USPS Priority Mail or Fedex).

You will need to include a self-addressed tracked and insured return envelope with your application (USPS Priority Mail with postage) for the cultural office to return your passport and visa to you.

Step four: Retrieve your Passport and Visa 


 

Visa processing takes 7 to 10 business days after submission of the application and supporting documents. You will pick up your passport and visa from the cultural office or your passport and visa will be returned to you via mail if you provided a self-addressed USPS Priority Mail envelope with postage.
